APA Quick Polls – Your Voice
As part of our workforce data build we are making some changes in how we gain quick insights from our members.
We plan to issue quick polls regularly across a range topics, to reach out directly with our members on significant policy issues to strengthen our advocacy.
The topics of these polls will vary and not every poll may be relevant to you or your work. However, where applicable, we encourage all members to take part to assist in strengthening our advocacy voice.
The APA issued a poll on 30 January to better understand the impacts of the Australian National Aged Care Classification (AN-ACC) of the physiotherapy workforce. It was designed to complement the extensive workforce surveys Allied Health Professions Australia conducted in collaboration with the APA.
The results are being used to inform the APA’s aged care strategy and assist us in our advocacy work on the impact of the AN-NAC.
The APA issued a poll on 12 November to better understand the referral practices of physiotherapists regarding specialist referrals.
The results were used in our advocacy efforts to allow physiotherapists to rights to refer directly to medical specialists. Most recently, this formed part of our Strengthening Medicare campaign to support improvements in health system design. Allowing physiotherapists to directly to medical specialists will improve the patient journey, save costs to the health system and improve capacity for medical practitioners and emergency departments.
The results will inform the directions of the future build of this key campaign in 2023. We will keep members across progress in this area in the coming months.
The APA issued a poll on 12 November to better understand the referral practices of physiotherapists regarding digital imaging.
The results were used in our advocacy efforts to expand digital imaging rights of physiotherapists. Most recently, this formed part of our Strengthening Medicare campaign to support improvements in health system design. Allowing physiotherapists to directly refer for digital imaging will improve the patient journey, save costs to the health system and improve capacity for medical practitioners and emergency departments.

Ahead of the national Jobs and Skills Summit (September 1–2), APA members were asked to participate in a quick poll to help shape and strengthen our advocacy efforts.
In our first quick poll, issued on August 4, we surveyed members on the direct impact of Covid-19 on our physiotherapy workforce.
