APASC25: Looking to the future of physio
InMotion presents an overview of key APASC25 sessions from leading national and international speakers.
At the October APA scientific conference in Adelaide, delegates were invited to explore what comes next for the physiotherapy profession. Through a series of key presentations, physiotherapists from across the country discovered the latest in research, technology, evidence-based practice and social change.
Looking to the future of physio
APA National President Rik Dawson welcomed all to the conference, which he said captured the energy and momentum of the profession.
‘It’s a chance to connect, share ideas and shape what comes next.
‘Physiotherapy is evolving and we are leading the change.’
After playing a recorded message from South Australian Minister for Health and Wellbeing Chris Picton, Rik spoke to the auditorium about the APA’s advocacy strategy, describing how it demonstrates the value of physiotherapy through credible policy, data and lived experience.
‘The APA is recognised for its ability to deliver real reform.
‘We’re engaging directly with elected officials, advisers and senior bureaucrats right across the country,’ the APA Titled Gerontological Physiotherapist said.
‘We’re advocating for full scope of practice in every setting, fair and sustainable rebates, new blended funding programs in primary care and stronger physiotherapy roles in aged care and across the health space.’
Taking the opportunity to officially release the APA’s Physiotherapy. Shaping our future together: next generation white paper, Rik told delegates that the APA is ensuring that the next generation of physiotherapists thrive in a system that values their contribution.
‘Supporting early-career physios is essential.
‘Workplace outcomes matter; we need systems where physios can grow, adapt and thrive.’
