PD BRIEFS The APA runs a significant number of professional development courses throughout the year, both face-to-face and online. Here are some highlights among the upcoming courses.

DISABILITY

Delivered in three parts, this Level 1 course aims to provide physiotherapists with the knowledge, understanding and skills to deliver high-quality physiotherapy services to people with a range of disabilities.

Learning outcomes include explaining and applying models and frameworks for working within the field of disability as well as understanding physiotherapy roles within disability at service and epidemiological levels.

Participants will also learn how to design support plans and interventions that are goal-determined, evidence-based and integrated into activity and participation components of the individual’s day.

To undertake Part C, participants must have completed both Part A and Part B. This course is only available to Ahpra-registered physiotherapists.

‘Disability Physiotherapy Level 1—Part B’ will run on 14 October online. To register, visit australian.physio/pd/pd-product?id=10794

‘Disability Physiotherapy Level 1—Part C will run on 1 November in North Lakes, Queensland (australian.physio/pd/pdproduct? id=13018) and on 13 December in Camberwell, Victoria (australian.physio/pd/ pd-product?id=12845).

POST-NEUROLOGICAL INJURY PAEDIATRIC GAIT

This two-day course provides in-depth insight into higher-level mobility analysis and retraining post-neurological injury in paediatric and adult populations.

Learning outcomes include understanding the impact of speed and age on gait performance, applying impairment-focused techniques, utilising video-based observational gait analysis and assessing and prescribing exercise to improve higher-level mobility in neurologically impaired populations.

This course is available to qualified Ahpra-registered physiotherapists and may also be available to other Ahpra-registered practitioners.

‘Paediatric gait and running analysis and retraining’ will run on 29–30 November in Nedlands, Western Australia. To register, visit australian.physio/pd/pdproduct? id=10756

AQUATIC PHYSIOTHERAPY

Participants in this Level 1 course will gain practical and theoretical knowledge on the clinical implications of immersion, hydrostatics, hydrodynamics, rotational control and exercise in water.

Learning outcomes include applying the hydrostatic and hydrodynamic principles related to buoyancy and drag in exercise and assisted movement, demonstrating a range of exercises for rehabilitation and planning an aquatic physiotherapy session.

Part A is a prerequisite for Parts B and C. This course is only available to Ahpra-registered physiotherapists.

‘Aquatic Physiotherapy Level 1— Parts B and C’ will run on 22 November in Eastwood, New South Wales. To register, visit australian.physio/pd/pdproduct? id=13014
