The APA runs a significant number of professional development courses throughout the year, both face-to-face and online. Here are some highlights among the upcoming courses.
WOMEN’S PELVIC HEALTH LEVELS 1 AND 2 – PART B
Designed to help physiotherapists develop their practical skills and clinical reasoning in women’s health, this course aligns with content taught in the online Level 1 Women’s Pelvic Health course.
Learning outcomes include applying screening, assessment tools and outcome measures related to introductory level pelvic floor assessment, demonstrating appropriate subjective history-taking skills and selecting, applying and interpreting physical assessment techniques for pelvic floor, urinary, anorectal and sexual dysfunction.
Prerequisites include online courses ‘Introductory Women’s Health Physiotherapy Level 1’, ‘Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Level 1 – Part A’ and (for Level 2) ‘Women’s Pelvic Health Physiotherapy Level 2 – Part A’.
The course is only available to Ahpra-registered physiotherapists.

SHOULDERS: SIMPLIFYING THE COMPLEX
This two-day course explores a systematic, evidence-based method for simplifying the management of a variety of common shoulder dysfunctions.
Participants will be fine-tuning essential therapy skills with respect to meaningful objective assessments, effective hands-on treatment techniques and functional exercise prescription.
Learning outcomes include taking a systematic approach to objective assessment and treatment, understanding how to best assess and manage neural dynamics and optimal mobility and performing an extensive spectrum of rehabilitation and functional strengthening exercises.
The course is available to qualified and Ahpra-registered physiotherapists.

PARKINSON’S DISEASE AND OTHER MOVEMENT DISORDERS
This course explores the assessment, treatment and management of Parkinson’s disease and other movement disorders.
Learning outcomes include understanding the pathophysiology of Parkinson’s disease and most common parkinsonisms, developing an assessment and outcomes model to analyse and discriminate within the motor and non-motor impairments and reflecting on the role of early intervention versus later intervention and the likely treatment effect and burden of disease.
The course is only available to qualified and Ahpra-registered physiotherapists.
