Reviewed annually for complete piece of mind
Every year the APA reviews the APA Member Insurance to ensure it remains relevant and valuable. Changes are based on claim trends, cost environment and coverage needs.
When renewing your membership, it’s important that you review any updates to the APA Member Insurance and consider whether an insured membership category or an uninsured category (with your own sourced insurance) best suits your needs.
Additional Entity Insurance
The APA Member Insurance covers you as an individual. If you are a business owner, it is essential to cover your practice's legal liability to third parties. If a clinician in your practice is named in a legal proceeding, it’s common for the practice to also be named as a means of determining liability and fault, if any exists.
The below table explains how you can get cover that meets your needs.
| I am a | How to get cover |
| Sole trader with no employees | The APA Member Insurance, included in many membership types, covers you as an individual. As a sole trader, you may apply for Entity Insurance under this policy, to protect your practice with no additional premium payable. Create an account and complete the application via the member-only BMS Portal to obtain a certificate with your practice's business name noted. |
| Practice owner with employees | As a practice owner with employees, your individual APA Member Insurance does not provide cover for your practice in this instance. You may purchase an Entity Insurance policy from BMS, via the member-only BMS Portal. The premium will be assessed based on your individual practice circumstances. |
