Changes for the 2026 renewal year
For the 2026 policy year, while there are no major changes to your APA Member Insurance, we are pleased to share the following enhancement for 2026:
- The aggregate limit of $60,000,000 for Public Liability has been removed. Your Public Liability cover is now Unlimited, meaning there is no overall cap across multiple claims in a policy period. Per claim limit of $20,000,000 still applies.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
Is APA Member Insurance compliant with the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (PhysioBA) and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (Ahpra)?
Yes, the APA Member Insurance policy complies with and exceeds all requirements set by the PhysioBA and Ahpra.
How do I get Entity Insurance?
You will need to create an account and complete an application or purchase Entity Insurance via the member-only BMS Portal. Please visit the APA Member Insurance page. For more information, contact BMS on 1800 931 068 or via email. Please note that if you do not apply for entity insurance coverage your practice is not automatically covered as part of your standard APA membership and insurance policy.
If my employer or union provides insurance cover, do I need individual insurance?
We would always recommend individuals hold their own insurance.
Many physiotherapists are covered through their employer or workplace union arrangements, and this can provide strong protection while you are working in that specific role.
However, it’s important to consider that this cover may only apply to services provided within your workplace. If you provide physiotherapy outside your main role - for example, volunteering with a local community sports club - your employer or union policy may not extend to those activities.
Holding your own APA Member Insurance policy ensures you are personally covered in these situations, giving you peace of mind that your professional practice is always protected.
