Opportunity to apply for a bursary

We are seeking applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander physiotherapy students and recently graduated physiotherapists for bursaries to attend the APA’s FOCUS24 conference in Perth on 31 October–2 November 2024. FOCUS24 is about the business of physiotherapy.

The APA is offering up to eight bursaries. Each bursary will cover the cost of conference registration fees, return economy airfares, accommodation and transport.

To be considered eligible for a bursary, applicants must:

  • identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person
  • be currently enrolled in a physiotherapy course at an Australian university OR have graduated from a physiotherapy course within the last two years
  • not have previously received a conference bursary from the APA
  • not be a current member of the APA Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Health Committee.

In assessing all eligible applications, we will give preference to students who are currently in their fourth year of study and to physiotherapists who are currently in their first year of practice.

To apply for one of these bursaries, complete the application form and return it to the APA via email by 30 June 2024.

Inclusive language guide

Authored by Dr Megan Ross MACP, APA Research Physiotherapist and Chair of the APA LGBTQIA+ Advisory Committee, this guide underscores the APA's dedication to fostering an inclusive and equitable environment. It advocates for the use of inclusive language that respects and validates all individuals, steering clear of biases, stereotypes, and discriminatory nuances. This language highlights the powerful role in shaping inclusive perceptions and experiences, promoting respect, dignity and a sense of community. By fostering a culture where every individual feels valued, inclusive language enhances meaningful participation and dialogue in a secure, welcoming setting.
