What are the differences between Acupuncture & Dry Needling and what is the same?

Come along to a lecture by the WA ADNG Chair Jenny Lucy and the ADNG National Chair Dr Jonathan Wray.

We will cover off on some of the myriad definitions of Acupuncture & Dry Needling, and answer:

What is acupuncture? What is dry needling?

The presentation will cover information presented by world renowned expert in Dry Needling Dr Jan Dommerholt on the International Acupuncture & Dry Needling Association of Physiotherapists (IADAPT) Webinar 24th April 2026.

To answer the question what is the difference and what is the same, History Philosophy Clinical applications and Mechanisms among others will be covered.

Jennifer Lucy


Jenny Lucy is currently the APA's ADNG International Acupuncture & Dry Needling Association of Physical Therapists (IADAPT) Executive Committee member and WA ADNG as past Chair 2020-2024, 2026 caretaker chair, and ex officio on National ADNG Committee as past chair 2020-2024. Jenny has held a registered physiotherapy acupuncture qualification in New Zealand since 1998 and a Level 2 Integrative Acupuncture qualification 2023.Jenny is resident and practising in Northam WA and practices using muscle balancing trigenics, rehabilitative exercising, acupuncture and dry needling with all of her clients. Jenny is a tutor/ presenter on the WA APA Dry Needling Course, and is a tutor on the WA Integrative Acupuncture Training course 2022 and 2026. Jenny was on an expert panel, MyJoint Tai Chi Research Group - UNiMelb in 2023 and holds a postgraduate diploma in Cardio-Thoracic Physiotherapy studying under Jennifer Pryor of the Brompton Hospital• World Physiotherapy Leadership Programme 2024 (UK QUALIFICATION)• Physio-Chi owner/trainer 2019-current• Ridgeway method Physiotherapy Training 2017-2018• Certified Kinesio Taping Practitioner 2013• Registered Trigenist Practitioner 2011• Registered Physiotherapy Acupuncturist 1998 with PAANZ ongoing to current• Advanced Diploma Cardiothoracic Physiotherapy 1984 (Canterbury Hospital Board Jennifer Pryors Course)• Diploma Physiotherapy Auckland Technical Institute New Zealand 1980.

Jonathan Wray


Jonathan Wray is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist (as awarded by the Australian College of Physiotherapy 2020). He is a director and principal physiotherapist at Next Wave Therapy in Fremantle, Western Australia and also works as a clinical tutor for the Master of Clinical Physiotherapy program at Curtin University. Jonathan has a special interest in treating headaches, complex neck and shoulder disorders using manual therapy, exercise and acupuncture. Jonathan has been using acupuncture and dry needling for over 10 years and has trained extensively in both western dry needling and integrative acupuncture.
