Prostate Cancer and Sexual Dysfunction

Prostate cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in Australia but with a survival rate exceeding 96% at 5 years and 91% at 10 years, this means over 290,000 men are living with or beyond diagnosis today. Many men in Australia are subsequently living with sexual dysfunction, a common side effect of most treatment options for prostate cancer. The purpose of today is to understand sexual dysfunction related to prostate cancer, explore the concept of penile rehabilitation and treatment options for sexual dysfunction along with evidence based practice
recommendations with Urology Nurse Practitioner Francesca Rogers.

Presenter:

Francesca is a Urology Nurse Practitioner who has extensive nursing experience in Urology, Gynaecology and Colorectal and has been a PCFA affiliated PCSN for over 12 years. Francesca has post graduate qualifications in Prostate Cancer, Sexual Health, is a Clinical Continence Advisor and completed a Urology and Men's Health Fellowship at the Australian Prostate Centre in Melbourne in 2016. Francesca completed her Master of Nursing (Nurse Practitioner) and currently cares for general urology patients with a focus in men's sexual health. She provides management of sexual health issues, bladder dysfunction and continence issues and facilitates the long term follow up of patients with urological cancers. Francesca also runs a national telehealth intimacy counseling service for men on hormone therapy. She is passionate about education and empowering patients and has published in international peer reviewed journals on penile rehabilitation. Francesca is an adjunct lecturer at Edith Cowan University, is a long standing committee member for the Asia-Pacific Prostate Cancer Conference. Francesca is a longstanding advisory board member for Exercise Medicine Research Institute and Movember. Francesca was a past president for SUNWA and state representative for ANZUNS. She was on the expert advisory panel for the National PSA Testing Guidelines which have just been approved in June 2026.
