Spinal Physiotherapy Part A (Lumbar)

The all new Spinal Physiotherapy Part A (Lumbar) course has arrived!

The current replacement of the former Spinal Level 1 course, the new Spinal Physiotherapy Part A course is a foundation course ideal for:
New graduates with an interest in musculoskeletal physiotherapy,
More experienced graduates changing to work in musculoskeletal physiotherapy, or
More experienced physiotherapists returning to musculoskeletal physiotherapy after an absence.

The course is aimed at physiotherapists who are seeking to develop a career in musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Delivered via a mix of teaching and learning approaches including didactic, practical/ hands-on, directed learning and facilitated case-based group discussions course participants will enhance their theoretical knowledge and demonstrate this understanding into practical application, reinforcing critical thinking in the area of musculoskeletal physiotherapy.

Topics covered are:
Overview of lumbar spine disorders
Overview of movement and pathophysiological changes with low back pain disorders
Physical examination
Lumbar Posture
Active Movements
Functional and Specific Postural and movement control tests
Neuromuscular and sensorimotor (proprioception) systems
Manual examination of the lumbar spine
Manipulative therapy
Nervous system
Neuromuscular system
Management of Low back disorders

Learning outcomes

  • Demonstrate knowledge of epidemiology and pathophysiology of common low back disorders
  • Describe typical clinical presentations of common low back disorders
  • Demonstrate a physical examination appropriate for common low back disorders
  • Demonstrate clinical reasoning in the interpretation of assessment findings
  • Discuss the implications of posture on commonlow back disorders
  • Select clinically relevant outcome measures
  • Select appropriate interventions based on clinical presentations, the clients' values and informed by best available evidence

  • Pre-course work in the form of a series of online modules is required to be completed prior to attending the course.
