Update - Management of obstructed defaecation syndrome

Obstructed defaecation affects approximately 10% of the ambulant adult population in the community. This lecture will provide a simple, structured approach to the evaluation of the patient with symptoms of obstructed defaecation and will focus on the latest available techniques to objectively investigate patients. The results of these cutting-edge investigations in common, real-life clinical cases will be presented to demonstrate how they offer an additional edge to planning and providing non-surgical therapy and how they can enhance patient understanding and thus adherence and compliance with the interventions you provide. Additional information will be provided regarding the surgical outcomes of common operations for obstructed defaecation syndrome such as laparoscopic ventral mesh rectopexy and the STARR procedure.
