Integrated solutions for neck and head pain

This course is an opportunity to enhance your skills in managing complex neck pain disorders that are often associated with headache, jaw pain, and dizziness. Drawing on knowledge from research, applied anatomy and clinical expertise, enhance your knowledge of the unique characteristics of the cervical vertebral column and cervical musculature in states of health and impairment. This knowledge underpins a systematic approach to the assessment and rehabilitation of cervical movement disorders. The course will be focused on a structured management approach appropriate for all problematic cervical disorders including whiplash associated disorders.


Learning outcomes

  • Improve biomechanical and pathophysiological knowledge underpinning clinical reasoning in the management of neck pain
  • Draw a link between the patients postural and movement behaviours and their reported symptoms
  • Advance skills in the examination and training of specific muscle groups of the cervical spine and shoulder girdle
  • Advance clinical reasoning in the management of neck and jaw pain, headache, dizziness, and whiplash

Prerequisites

  • This course is only available to qualified and AHPRA registered physiotherapists.

Shaun O'Leary


Shaun O'Leary BPhty(Hons), MPhty(Msk), PhD, FACP Dr Shaun O'Leary is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist in private practice, a Senior Research Fellow between the Physiotherapy Departments at Royal Brisbane and Womens Hospital and the University of Queensland, and a Senior Lecturer in Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy at the University of Queensland. Shaun's research focus over the last eighteen years has been in the assessment and rehabilitation of movement disorders in chronic spinal conditions but particularly the neck. He has over 70 publications in peer reviewed international journals and is a co-author of two books concerning the management of cervical spine disorders. Shaun has extensive clinical experience in the management of musculoskeletal disorders and is a Fellow and Examiner of the Australian College of Physiotherapists. He has extensive experience in teaching at both an undergraduate and postgraduate level of Physiotherapy education, and has delivered numerous clinical education courses in Australia and Internationally.
