Cancer in the older population: physiotherapy management
It is estimated that the risk of an individual being diagnosed with cancer by their 85th birthday is now 1 in 2. As such, it is essential that physiotherapists are appropriately skilled to manage this population and understand the effects of cancer treatment on body function, physical performance and psychological state.
This lecture will explore the physiotherapy management of older persons with cancer. Physiotherapy goal setting will be discussed, including comparing a rehabilitative approach for functional recovery to a supportive care approach to optimise function in the face of terminal disease.
