Muscle coordination: the key stone of pain rehab

It is the coordination of forces produces from multiple muscles that act across joints that enables us to move and interact with our environment. There are many well-known factors that contribute to muscle force generation. However, most studies that consider muscle coordination in people with musculoskeletal pain consider muscle activation alone. It is the balance of force (not just activation) that will effect structures such as tendons and joints. I lead a group of researchers who are interested in determining if the balance of muscle force may make certain people more at risk than others at developing particular musculoskeletal disorders.
