RLSSA hydrotherapy rescue update
As recommended by APA Guidelines for Physiotherapists working in and/or managing hydrotherapy pools, all aquatic professionals must have a sound knowledge of, and be competent in, the use of emergency procedures including rescue techniques for special populations, and CPR skills.
Learning outcomes
- The use of emergency procedures including rescue techniques for special populations, and CPR skills.
- Update is provided yearly to develop the level of knowledge, judgement and techniques required to carry out safe water rescues including CPR update, spinal injury management, rescue techniques and recover and resuscitate.
- Be competent in the use of the DRABC principles and Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation
- Be competent in responding appropriately to rescue a person in danger in the pool and be able to perform a range of rescue techniques
- Understand the concept of Duty of Care and have enough references to formulate an appropriate emergency plan for your facility
- Be safe in exiting an unconscious patient from the water
