Sports participation pathways –therapy-community-competition

The benefits of physical activity are well understood, yet children with a disability frequently display more restricted participation than their peers. This lecture will focus on pathways into the sports of bike riding, swimming and athletics, including Race Running.

The presenters will discuss ideas for evidence-based therapy and community participation, as well as sports classification. The goal of classification is to level the playing field so that athletes have equal opportunities to compete and achieve success. By being classified and able to compete fairly against peers, children of all ages are more motivated to play sports from a grass roots level all the way through to elite level Paralympic competition.
