Expression of interest
For those practitioners who have already successfully completed the Vestibular Rehabilitation: Competency-Based Course, the APA are proud to be hosting Advances in vestibular rehabilitation: A competency based renewal course, created by Profs Susan Herdman, Rick Clendaniel and colleagues. This advanced level, evidence-based, three day course was developed in response to requests for an update on treatment and assessment of people with vestibular disorders.

Registration is via EOI where the applicant must provide proof of their successful completion of the Vestibular Rehabilitation: Competency-Based Course.

Completing the EOI does NOT mean you have a confirmed place in the course. You will be notified of the outcome of your application by email within a month of submitting.

If successful, you will be required to register and pay for the course through a separate registration process.

Course description:
This advanced level, evidence-based, three day course was developed in response to requests for an update on treatment and assessment of people with vestibular disorders. It is open only to Physiotherapists and Occupational Therapists who have passed the Vestibular Rehabilitation Competency-Based Course.

The course will emphasize assessment and treatment of cervico-genic dizziness (lecture and laboratory sessions); differentiation of central eye movement signs and symptoms from peripheral vestibular eye movement signs and symptoms, as well as treatment considerations for individuals with dizziness secondary to central vestibular disorders, including concussion; treatment of the less common presentations of BPPV (lecture and laboratory sessions); dizziness and Meniere's versus the migraine complex, SCD and other uncommon vestibular disorders; pediatric vestibular rehabilitation; and expectations for recovery.

In addition, all participants are asked to bring with them one case study (preferably difficult) that may be reviewed as part of the course.
Participants should create a short (no more than 5 slides) PowerPoint presentation (if possible) containing patient history, vestibular function test results, and if possible, even videos of eye movements and gait, as well as summary of medical, surgical and rehabilitation treatments. Selected cases will be discussed by the faculty and course participants on the last day of the course.
The course will include written, video and practical examinations of assessment and intervention procedures.

Two certificates are given for the course - one for attendance and one for achievement. It is our intent that the certificate of achievement signifies that at the time the course was given, the participant demonstrated proper performance of certain skills (based on practical exams) and understood basic information (based on written exams) related to vestibular rehabilitation.

The granting of the certificate of achievement in no way certifies that the participant retains those skills and knowledge, or applies them appropriately in the future. Upon completion of the course, CPD hours will be awarded via a certificate of attendance. Full attendance to the course is required to obtain CPD for the course. Partial credit will not be awarded for partial attendance.
