Imaging and spinal pain

We will explore indications, pitfalls, predictive capacity of imaging and guidelines regarding imaging, with reference to case examples and putting the “bio” back into the biopsychosocial, regarding imaging.

Rod is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, completing the training program in 2013. Rod has both undergraduate and postgraduate physiotherapy degrees from UQ. He has worked with international sporting teams including Australian Rowing, British Rowing, British Swimming and Minardi Formula One team. He works privately at Toowong and the Princess Alexandra Hospital spinal surgical services screening clinic.

He is a UQ musculoskeletal masters program guest lecturer and APA spinal A lecturer with expertise in the management of spinal pain, TMD and rowing injuries.

Rodney McLean


Rod is a Specialist Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist and Fellow of the College of Australian Physiotherapists (awarded 2013), He manages complex, chronic musculoskeletal conditions including temporomandibular dysfunction from a biopsychosocial approach. Rod McLean currently works as an Advanced Practice Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist at the Back and Jaw Assessment Clinic at the Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) which is a physiotherapist-led triage clinic for spine related conditions referred to the Orthopaedic and Neurosurgical Spine Departments and for jaw pain conditions referred to the Maxillofacial department. He established the Jaw Assessment clinic at the PAH in 2017 and is currently leading the evaluation of the clinic within a retrospective cohort study. Rod McLean is co developing the temporomandibular component for the APA national Spinal Level B curriculum course for physiotherapists across Australia.
