Pilates in the older person: an introduction

Dr Marie-Louise Bird is a lecturer in anatomy, bioscience and kinesiology at the University of Tasmania with extensive experience in the field of Clinical Pilates. This 2 hour presentation will provide attendees with an introduction to the use of Pilates in the older population, as well as present a series of case studies demonstrating use across different clinical conditions.

Marie-Louise is a clinician-scientist and registered Physiotherapist who is passionate about moving well with aging. She holds a PhD in exercise for older adults and Polestar rehabilitation certification. She conducted the first RCT for Pilates and older adults, and applies current motor learning approaches in the teaching of evidence-based Pilates exercises to physiotherapists who work with older adults.
