Maintaining focus and motivation in isolation
The world is currently facing extraordinary and unfamiliar circumstances. The world of sport, fitness, and health has been affected as much as any, with cancelled and postponed events and many sporting facilities and support services closing and/or experiencing a decrease in service delivery. While the world waits out the Coronavirus pandemic, many of us are having the navigate a whole new way of functioning in the world. This can create a huge amount of uncertainty, worry, disappointment and therefore a lack of motivation. As the threat of the pandemic lessens and the government begins to consider easing restrictions, society will be facing yet ANOTHER transition and we will look to readjust yet again to another 'new normal'. Join me, Emma Scharkie - registered psychologist working in sport, to hear how we as allied health professionals can keep our athletes and clients mentally engaged, keep up the motivation to train in isolation, and readjust mentally to the resumption of training and competition.
We will discuss practical strategies that you can apply when working with your clients to help keep them active and in a great physical and mental space during this time. We will also touch on what signs and symptoms to look out for in regards to someone mental health and when to refer to a mental health specialist. The session will also include the opportunity for us all to share how our practice has changed in the face of the pandemic and gives us space to learn from each other about how to best work and cope moving forward.
