Intrinsic foot muscles and plantar heel pain

Plantar heel pain is a common and persistent cause of foot pain affecting a wide range of individuals. Evidence of intrinsic foot muscle deficits associated with plantar heel pain, along with enhanced understanding of the role of these muscles, suggests that this may be an important component in management of the condition. Melinda will discuss the evidence, including her own research using ultrasound imaging and high-field 7T MRI. Case examples will illustrate how to use this knowledge in clinical decision making.

Dr Melinda Franettovich Smith (PhD, BPhty (Hons)) is a Physiotherapist and Postdoctoral Research Fellow at The University of Queensland. Her clinical and research experience is across various and is evidenced in 34 peer-reviewed journal articles.
