Red flag presentations in headaches and recognition of VBI

This lecture will provide an overview of serious pathology in patients with headache and neck pain presenting to primary care, focusing on the early presentation of patients with dissection and disorders such as vertebrobasilar insufficiency.

This will assist clinicians identify risk factors and early clinical signs, in order improve timely identification of these often difficult to diagnose conditions.

Dr Lucy Thomas is a titled musculoskeletal physiotherapist and academic at the University of Queensland. Her main research focus is on improving screening practices in cervical manipulative therapy, in particular early recognition of craniocervical arterial dissection. Dr Thomas led development of the 2018 APA ‘Clinical guide to safe manipulative therapy practice in the cervical spine'.
