Pre-employment assessment

Participants will gain an understanding of the broad range of Pre-Employment (PE) assessments; the legislative requirements; the evidence base and the roles of key stakeholders in the process. Participants will also gain knowledge and skills in preparation of PE assessments, design and conducting an assessment. The requirements for writing a PE assessment report will be covered. Finally, an understanding of the ethical and moral challenges will be discussed.

This course covers the what, why and how of Pre-Employment assessments. This course covers not only the practical skills required to perform these assessments, but also the legal, ethical and moral considerations that practitioners must be aware of.

  • Describe and understand the legislative requirements for Pre-Employment Assessments
  • Identify the roles and responsibilities of key stakeholders in the Pre-Employment Assessment process
  • Recognise the evidence base for Pre-Employment Assessments
  • Design a Pre-Employment Assessment to meet employer and legislative requirements
  • Conduct a Pre-Employment Assessment to meet legislative, employer and assessor and worker requirements
  • Recognise the moral and ethical challenges when conducting Pre-Employment Assessments
  • Identify and understand the requirements of writing a Pre-Employment Assessment report

Prerequisites

  • This course is only available to qualified and AHPRA registered physiotherapists and occupational therapists.

Deborah Sutherland


Deb is a Titled-APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist with a clinical background in musculoskeletal physiotherapy and has worked as an Occupational Health Physiotherapist for 15 years. She is also a graduate from Monash University with an honours degree in Economics, a workplace trainer and First Aid Mental Health Aider. Deb is the Director of Occupational Wellbeing and her interests lie in behaviourally based training and wellness programs, risk analysis in metropolitan and remote locations and injury management. She is the current National Chair of the APA Occupational Health Physiotherapy Australia (OHPA) and represents the OHPA at the National Advisory Council.
