Physiotherapy and weight management in the elderly

Drawing from the recent development of an online training program for Physiotherapists by the team at the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine, Kim will be speaking about the pathophysiology of weight gain, the impact of weight in ageing and chronic disease, the complexities of weight maintenance and the role of Physiotherapists in weight management.

Kim Allison


Dr Kim Allison holds a joint position as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre for Health, Exercise and Sports Medicine and a Lecturer into the Doctor of Physiotherapy Program at the University of Melbourne. Her current research focuses on the role of physiotherapists in weight management for osteoarthritis, including randomized clinical trials exploring education interventions for physiotherapists and delivery of weight management interventions by physiotherapists. Beyond weight management, she is also an Investigator on a current NHMRC Program Grant exploring optimal exercise interventions for people with hip osteoarthritis. A passionate educator with more than ten years clinical experience in private practice settings, Kim strives to integrate research and clinical expertise into the educational experience of student physiotherapists.
