Paediatric Physiotherapy Level 1
The Paediatric Level 1 course is a highly interactive and practical course designed for physiotherapists who wish to develop their knowledge and skills in managing children's conditions. The course is recommended for new graduate physiotherapists with less than 3 years' experience, or adult physiotherapists who would like to gain more education in paediatrics. The case study format will allow participants to accelerate their learning of key concepts for application in the workplace. This course is a mandatory component of the experiential titling pathway in Paediatric Physiotherapy
Topics and Case Studies- Management of the Infant 3-12 months- focus on Torticollis
- Management of preschool child 3-5 years with motor impairment
- Management of school aged child 5-18 years with Cerebral Palsy
- Cardiopulmonary development/physical activity
- Musculoskeletal development and injuries
- Cognitive and social development, managing behaviour and goal attainment scaling
Learning outcomes
- Demonstrate basic clinical reasoning to plan the management of children with common complaints
- Select and demonstrate the use of assessment and classification systems tools appropriate to infancy and childhood
- Apply motor development theories (including development of body systems) to the management of children (0–16 years of age) presenting with motor disorders
Prerequisites
- This course is only available to qualified and AHPRA registered physiotherapists.
