HINE - Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination

** NEW COURSE **

On completion of the course, participants will be able to:

1. Describe the evidence for use of the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) for the early detection of infants at high risk of CP or at risk of neurodevelopmental impairment.
2. Describe item by item administration and scoring
3. Be familiar with HINE application (through viewing of recorded and live demonstration of application of HINE assessment)
4. Reliably score actual cases
5. Be able to interpret HINE scoring

Learning outcomes

  • Understand the evidence for use of the HINE
  • Perform the HINE and correctly administer all items
  • Correctly score all items on the HINE using the proforma
  • Identify and score asymmetries of movement and tone/posture
  • Interpret and report HINE score

Prerequisites

  • This course is available to qualified and AHPRA registered physiotherapists and may be also available to other AHPRA registered practitioners.

Presenters

Cathryn Crowle


Cathryn is a Senior Occupational Therapist at The Children's Hospital Westmead, Sydney. She has over 25 years of experience as a paediatric occupational therapist, including 10 years in the NICU. Her PhD explored the use of the General Movements assessment with infants following neonatal surgery. Dr Crowle now holds a conjoint appointment as Clinical Senior Lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine and Health at the University of Sydney. Dr Crowle has Advanced certification in the General Movements Assessment, is a trainer in the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE) and is a NIDCAP Certified Professional.

Michelle Juarez


Michelle is a Senior Physiotherapist at The Children's Hospital Westmead. She has over 25 years experience working as a paediatric physiotherapist, including 15 years as the Critical Care Senior for paediatric and neonatal intensive care. Michelle is also the Senior Physiotherapist in the Grace Development Clinic at CHW, which assesses all infants who have undergone major neonatal surgery. Michelle has Advanced certification in the General Movements Assessment and is a trainer in the Hammersmith Infant Neurological Examination (HINE).
