Grant recipient: Robyn Brennan
Project title: Telehealth-delivered pelvic floor training after gyneacological cancer surgery
Year awarded: 2018
Grant: Seeding Grant
Grant amount: $12,000
Snapshot: Robyn Brennen APAM and her research team conducted a trial on patients experiencing incontinence after undergoing gynaecological cancer surgery. The participants completed a 12-week physiotherapist-supervised telehealth-delivered PFMT program using an intravaginal biofeedback device and associated mobile application.
The findings: Pelvic floor muscle training (PFMT) delivered by telehealth may be a feasible intervention for urinary incontinence and/or faecal incontinence after gynaecological cancer surgery.
Benefits to the profession: The study demonstrated the feasibility and safety of the telehealth-delivered PFMT intervention and its potential for managing urinary and/or faecal incontinence.
