Sharing videos made easy

Barry Nguyen, APAM, reviews a digital video communication platform that can be used on a multitude of devices, including smartphones.

LOOM

Developer: Loom, Inc.

Where to get it: Apple app store, Google Play or company website

Price: Freemium (paid version beginning at $15 a month)

Loom allows you to communicate quickly and expressively, internally and externally, through video. This has the potential to be a great app for physiotherapists to share videos with their colleagues and clients.

Perhaps now it is more important than ever for physiotherapists to have a tool to produce and curate video content for their clients, while digital health is still dominating the mainstream because of COVID-19.

Loom allows for smartphone video and screen recording, drawing and text annotation—and includes personalised branding and content libraries with the paid version.

Loom is a must-have digital tool for all physiotherapists considering the production of videos for training purposes, content marketing or clinical work with their clients. The alternatives in the market currently do not appear to be as easy to use or as responsive.

The developers of this software have done an amazing job to cater for the individual without technical expertise.

Pros

  • The free version is user friendly
  • The paid version, with more features, is relatively affordable
  • Intuitive and easy to use for the non-tech savvy
  • Fast video processing
  • Videos can be viewed and are compatible with all devices.

Cons

  • No telehealth video platform or practice management software integration
  • Limited video editing features, even in the paid version
  • Drawing tools are only available in the paid version.

APP MARKETPLACE

The APA has introduced an APA app marketplace on our website, which provides companies with the opportunity to advertise their app in either the featured or non-featured positions. Media kits are also available to download from this page. Go to australian.physio/app-market-place for more details.
