APA Privacy Policy
Our commitment to your privacy
Your privacy is very important to the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA). The APA is committed to protecting personal information in compliance with the Australian Privacy Principles under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
This Privacy Policy is designed to assist you in understanding how we handle your personal information when you interact with us, for example, through our dealings with you as a member, supplier, contractor, or job applicant. You can elect to provide the APA with as much or as little information as you choose although the APA requires a minimum set of information from you in order to provide you with access to the APA’s website. What information you provide is your choice.

Why does APA collect personal information and how do we use it?
The APA collects personal information for the purpose of carrying out our functions and activities in providing our products, services, and member benefits, as well as other related purposes, including:
- responding to your communications
- to engage with you in relation to your membership
- to engage with you in relation to your holding of a governance position with the APA
- to manage your membership including to process applications and renewals and to update your APA membership details and profile information
- to provide you with access to and information about current and future member benefits
- providing and marketing our products, services, and membership benefits to you
- to notify you and the public that you have met our requirements for credentialing (e.g. specialisation or titling)
- to process applications for and continue enrolment in the CPD online and face to face courses offered by the APA
- to engage with you in relation to Professional Development Education programs and Conference related activities
- to provide members with APA publications, information and resource materials
- from job applicants who apply for employment with us, so that we can assess their suitability for vacant positions and/or contact them about future employment opportunities that arise
- promotion of members to consumer audiences and other health professionals, including but not limited to medical practitioners, specialists, private health insurance, and other funder audiences
- conducting market research in order to identify and analyse the ongoing needs of APA members
- providing you with the ability to advertise for job vacancies
- verifying the identity of our members and users including conducting credit checks to prevent fraud
- to measure and improve our products and services and the features on our Website to provide you with the best service experience
- invoicing and debt recovery
- ensuring compliance with the APA's Constitution and Regulations
- to comply with legal and regulatory requirements, resolve any complaints or disputes that we may have with any of our users, and enforce our agreements with third parties.

From time-to-time we may use and disclose the personal information we hold about you to contact you about membership, administrative notices, publications, and communications relevant to the profession, special offers, promotions, and products and services we think may be of interest to you. You can unsubscribe from our mailing/marketing lists at any time by contacting us or using the opt-out facilities provided (for example, an unsubscribe link), or you may request to unsubscribe by contacting us.
If you choose to block or unsubscribe from communications from the APA within your own email or mobile platform, it is your responsibility to ensure that you are receiving important communications in relation to your membership by managing your settings accordingly, and you should periodically review your email settings and relevant folders or spam filters to ensure you do not miss important information from us. The APA does not accept responsibility for any message delivery failure which may result from user notification preferences.
Security
Your data may be stored with various vendors or suppliers who provide systems and services to the APA. The information stored on APA-owned infrastructure is located in secure data centres. The APA is committed to using industry-standard mechanisms to protect the confidentiality of your personal information, including firewalls, data encryption, and Secure Socket Layers. Additionally, the APA has implemented security measures to detect fraudulent identity verification activity and prevent unauthorized access to or deletion of personal information, thereby minimizing cybersecurity risks. Vendors and suppliers who store your data also use their own security measures to protect your information.
Should we become aware of any breach to our security systems that is likely to place your personal information at risk, we will notify you and any authority as required. If you suspect any misuse or unauthorised access to your personal information, you should contact us immediately.
Do we send your personal information overseas?
It is not anticipated that your personal information will be disclosed to overseas recipients. However, we use service providers who may store or process your information outside Australia, including but not limited to North America via cloud-based servers.
Third party websites
Please note that our Website may contain links to other websites, plug-ins and applications which are operated by third parties that have their own privacy policies and are not subject to this Privacy Policy. Clicking on those links or enabling those connections may allow third parties to collect or share data about you. The APA do not have control over or rights in those third-party websites and make no representations or warranties about the information of statements you may encounter on third party websites or how those websites handle your personal information. The privacy policies of these third parties may differ substantially from this Privacy Policy. The APA encourages you read the privacy policy of every website you visit before using them.
Access to personal information
The information collected by us will be retained for 7 years, being no longer than is reasonably necessary for the purposes disclosed to you in this privacy policy and otherwise.
If we no longer require your personal information for any purpose for which the information may be used or disclosed in accordance with this Privacy Policy, we will take such steps as are reasonable in the circumstances to destroy the information or to ensure that the information is de-identified.
You have the right to access, review, correct and alter any personal information that the APA stores about you.

- request the deletion of any parts of your information held by the APA

Unless the access you request will require special steps or significant resources, there will be no charge for providing you with this access.
