Pilates for the Older Adult – Mat and Reformer

Many physiotherapists now use Pilates reformers in clinical practice, and an understanding of how to specifically meet the needs of older adults will extend the options for managing a range of clinical and non-clinical conditions. This course will use an evidence-informed approach to the delivery of Pilates for Older adults, taking into consideration facets of normal aging and common clinical conditions that affect older people.

This course aims to provide a forum for physiotherapists to develop safe skills in the design and delivery of exercise programs to older adults using small equipment on the mat and the Pilates reformer equipment. This is a practical skills based course that will develop their skills in the effective delivery of exercise programs that meet the needs and goals of older adults. Participants will gain experience in delivering small group classes as well as individualised programs and their own movement self-mastery.
