That makes me want to die, in my body - A brief on psychological trauma.

The seminal work of Bessel van der Kolk on traumatic stress brought the concept of bodily 'memory' into the considerations of psychological care. Initially developed in response to patient's experiences in the post-Vietnam War, it has since found a surprising place in all manner of presentations. Brian will attempt a sprint of overarching concepts of psychological trauma applicable to client-facing work and, begin unfolding the question of what happens when brains and nervous systems develop within an environment that no longer exists.

Presenter: Dr Brian Lim.

Brian is a general psychologist who has worked mainly with youth and young adults. Brian's main interest is in supporting people with major life adjustments, feeling comfortable in their own existence, and finding belonging in their community and culture.

Aside from anxious and depressive concerns, Brian is enthusiastic about good research, psychological trauma, working with youth, neuro-informed therapies, neurodiversity, and gender diversity. His peers describe him as having an eclectic approach to working with clients, emphasising the therapeutic relationship. Brian typically uses some combination of CBT, attachment work, narrative therapy, DBT, logotherapy, and existential psychology, and he is working to build in more psychosomatic skills and schema therapy.
