Cyber security to protect your business - Don't become a headline

“MediSecure calls in administrators after cyber breach”, itnews June 5th 2024
“Medibank faces maximum $21.5 trillion fine in new cyber hack case”, AFR June 5th 2023

Having the right cyber security to protect your business and patient data is an absolute necessity for your business. Don't become a headline.

· Are you aware that service agreements with outside vendors (non-profits, for profits) and insurers now defer liability to you should they be breached as a result of you, your staff or your systems? This can include breaches that stem from anyone and any device accessing your systems.
· Do you have measures in place to ensure your security resources meet the standards outlined in service agreements or government legislation, considering potential impacts on insurance coverage and contractual obligations?
· Does your current level of insurance cover breaches caused by your team members and to what degree to remediate and repair the damage across your business. MOST Businesses are under insured and unaware of the costs to remediate a breach. Unfortunately, this is part of why 1 in 4 business don't ever recover after a major cyber incident.
· Do you understand the consequences of a data breach?
o What would it cost for your practice to be offline for a period of time?
o Do you know what to do if you have a data breach? If so, what is your plan?
o What are your requirements around the Notification of Data Breach Scheme and who you need to notify, when a breach occurs.
o How do you know when you are being breached and if you are adequately monitoring? What does your visibility look like?
· You cannot rely on your virus protection or the security of your PMS provider. Relying solely on antivirus software is insufficient in today's cybersecurity landscape. To address these limitations, organizations should adopt a multi-layered approach to cybersecurity.
