Self compassion for physiotherapists

Treating clients with persistent pain can be a rewarding but also challenging in practice. Clinicians who work in this field are often at risk of compassion fatigue or burnout.

This lecture will introduce a series of self – compassion strategies to be incorporated into your daily life in order to deepen therapeutic presence, to enjoy clinical work more thoroughly, and for an overall sense of well-being.

Jacqui Stanford


Dr Jacqui Stanford is currently the Director and Principal Psychologist of Empower Rehab, who specialise in providing interdisciplinary pain management, as well as working with clients presenting with a range of psychological presentations. She is also a psychology and pain management advisor to WorkSafe Victoria.

Jacqui provides training and supervision to health professionals and ‘return to work' professionals about the management of clients with persistent pain to help facilitate recovery and optimal function. She has been running a successful “ Pain Management in Practice” course for the last 12 years to help allied health and return to work professionals in this field.

She is a member of the Australian Psychological Society and the Health College, the International Association for the Study of Pain and the Australian Pain Society. Jacqui has been invited to present at multiple forums including Australian Pain Society Conference, webinars, seminars and panel forums around Australia on best practice pain management.
