Pelvic Floor Dysfunction in Women: Tackling Barriers

Pelvic floor problems are common in women of all ages. Urinary and faecal incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, difficulties with defecation, pelvic pain and sexual problems are only some of the possible symptoms of pelvic floor dysfunction.

Although Pelvic Floor Muscle Training has been proven to be effective in the prevention and treatment of Pelvic Floor Dysfunction (PFD) in women during pregnancy and after delivery, the lifetime prevalence remains high. This raises questions about possible obstacles or barriers to the prevention and treatment of PFD.

During this lecture several barriers to effective prevention and treatment of pelvic floor dysfunction symptoms during pregnancy and after childbirth will be discussed. Let's bridge the gap between scientific research and clinical practice in order to improve women's pelvic health!
