Systematic profiling in neurological conditions, the SPIN research program

The SPIN research program comprises of a comprehensive profiling system across neurological conditions, enabling the development of personalisable treatment strategies. Data, both quantitative and qualitative, generated in the SPIN program will inform the development of novel interventions. Based on our consumer consultation we are running two interventions at this stage, the Motor Improvement in Neurological Conditions (MINC) trial and the Efficacy of Novel Light Therapy in Neurological Disorders (ENLighTIND) trial. The MINC trial is a study using an immersive game with the aim to get the dose and intensity of behavioural therapy needed to drive recovery of motor skills and cognition. The ENLighTIND trial uses bright light therapy with the aim to treat sleep and circadian rhythm disturbances. After discussing these trials, we will touch upon novel trials that are going to be rolled out over the next few months.

Presenter: Dr. Onno van der Groen

Dr. Onno is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the School of Medical and Health Sciences and in the Exercise Research Medicine Institute (EMRI). His research focusses on investigating recovery after neurological injury with an emphasis on motor recovery. The work incorporates technologies including non-invasive brain stimulation and rehabilitation robotics. Dr Onno obtained his PhD at the ETH in Zurich (Switzerland) investigating the effect of non-invasive brain stimulation on visual perception. He has a Bachelor in Human Movement Sciences from the University of Groningen and a master in Cognitive Neuropsychology from the VU University in Amsterdam.
