Return to upper limb weight bearing post OCD

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) is a condition that develops in joints, often in children or adolescents.

Management of athletes with upper limb OCD can be difficult when returning to being able to weight bear on their upper limbs both statically and dynamically.

This lecture will provide an overview of diagnosis through to rehabilitation planning and returning to performance.

Kathy Yu


Dr Kathy Yu is a sports doctor who is highly experienced in all aspects of sports medicine with a special interest in gymnastics, circus, dance, professional performers, sailing and rehabilitation. Kathy honed her biomechanics skills while coaching gymnastics. She understands the needs of professional performing artists during their return-to-work processes. Dr Kathy assists a number of orthopaedic surgeons and provides pre- and post-operative advice to those who are looking for holistic care, focusing on the many facets of rehabilitation and after surgery care.Kathy is part of the sports medicine team for the Australian 2020 Tokyo Olympics as well as working for Gymnastics Australia, The National Institute of Circus Arts, Australian Sailing, and consulting to professional circus companies.

Kate McGillivray


Kate McGillivray is an APA sports and exercise physiotherapist. She has worked extensively at the elite level and is the current Senior Physiotherapist for the Australian Women's Artistic Gymnastics Team. Kate is currently working as consultant Sports Physiotherapist at the Victorian Institute of Sport as part of their performance services team. Her extensive elite level experience also includes medical management of dancers and athletes at the Victorian Institute of Sport, Diving Australia, Diving Victoria, The Australian Ballet and Tennis Australia.More recently Kate accompanied the Australian gymnastics team on their successful 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games campaign, 2017 and 2018 World Gymnastics Championships and 2017, 2018, 2019 and 2020 World Cups, and has just returned from the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
