2022 Tas Branch Symposium

The Tasmanian Branch extends a warm invitation to APA members and colleagues to attend the 2022 Annual Symposium.

The Symposium presents a dual opportunity to participate in a high-quality professional development program and network with fellow Tasmanian physiotherapists.

The Symposium program will be supported by a number of invited local speakers.

Keynote Speaker: Darren Beales, FACP

Darren will present Musculoskeletal physiotherapy: We have hands for a reason - but how and when to use them?

Hands have been used for therapeutic effect for centuries. Use of the hands is a central part of physiotherapy training and practice. Whole areas of practice, like manual therapy, are devoted to use of the hands. For the present-day practitioner managing pain disorders though, use of the hands can be confusing and even controversial. Should I use my hands at all? If I use my hands, how should I use them?

This presentation will consider the use of the therapist's hands in the management pain disorders. It will provide a clinical reasoning framework that is pragmatic and practical to apply.

Additional speakers:

Jenny Ball, AM - The PIP joint: small hinge, big problem!

Neil Tuttle, APA Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist - topic area: Research into manual therapy and spinal movement

Emma Sorbian, Physiotherapist - topic area: Lymphoedema

Scott Willis, APA National President
