Presenters

Maya Panisset

Dr. Maya Panisset has a Master's in Physical Therapy from Boston University and a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of Melbourne. Her thesis examined the safety and efficacy of initiating FES cycling early after spinal cord injury in an international multi-site trial. Her subsequent research has included translational work in falls prevention utilising community-based Seniors exercise parks, Phase I trials of cranial nerve neuromodulation in subacute stroke and the use of inertial sensors to track walking and balance in people with multiple sclerosis. Soon she will begin an exciting MRFF funded adaptive trial of transcutaneous electrical spinal cord neuromodulation (TESCoN) to restore upper limb function in people with tetraplegia.

Madeline Hannington

Madeline Hannington completed a Bachelor of Physiotherapy with Honours at Monash University and has recently passed her PhD at La Trobe University. Her thesis investigated anterior knee pain in elite basketball athletes from Australia, Canada and the United State of America. Maddy's research examined methods to capture overuse injuries and differentiate anterior knee pain conditions. Madeline has a strong interest in sports physiotherapy and has previously worked with Coburg Football Club (VFL), Oakleigh Chargers Football Club, and Basketball Victoria State teams. Studying a PhD has allowed Maddy to combine her interests in sports physiotherapy with her teaching career. She now works as a Physiotherapy Lecturer at La Trobe University and is the physiotherapist for the Melbourne Renegades in the Women's Big Bash League.
