Ultrasound-guided dry needling for patients with knee osteoarthritis

Knee osteoarthritis (KOA) is the most common type of osteoarthritis in the elderly community and its prevalence is rising as the population ages. The underlying etiology of KOA is unknown and causes pain, disability and poor quality of life. The aim of this webinar is to share the findings from a double-blinded randomized controlled trial systematic on ultrasound-guided dry needling (US-DN) for the patients with KOA. This study is the first study to report US-DN with exercise therapy may be more effective than traditional DN with exercise therapy or exercise therapy alone in reduce pain for patients with KOA.

Johnson Pang


Dr Johnson Pang is a Assistant Professor at the BSc (Hons) Physiotherapy Programme. He earned his DHSc (PT), MSc Manipulative Physiotherapy and BSc (Honours) in Physiotherapy from Hong Kong Polytechnic University, and a Dip Acupuncture for Physiotherapists at Sun Yat-Sen University. He is a certified Musculoskeletal Physiotherapist, Blankenship Functional Capacity Evaluator, Aquaticist, and Acupuncture Practitioner. He previously gained extensive clinical experience in the Prince of Wales Hospital. His primary research interests are in the areas of musculoskeletal physiotherapy, biomechanics, ultrasound-guided dry needling and acupuncture.
