Introduction to pilates for neurological clients

The Introduction to Pilates for Neurological Clients course will introduce the principles of both mat and reformer-based Pilates and how these can be adapted to meet the needs of a neurological client. It aims to introduce some Pilates exercises and equipment which is done in a practical format where course participants will perform and demonstrate the exercises themselves. Neurological case studies will also be presented as a patient demonstration.

Varied discussion topics during this practical course will assist you in applying Pilates to rehabilitating clients with Neurological conditions. One of these is learning how Pilates can bridge the gap between hands on facilitation and resistance training. Other areas explored are how Pilates can be used to rehabilitate not only weakness but high and low tone, sensory changes, vestibular dysfunction, incontinence, motor control and management of fatigue. An overarching topic is how Pilates can be used functionally and tailored to assist individual neurological clients to achieve their goals.
As a result of attending this course participants will come away with many exercise-based ideas of how to promote positive neuroplasticity.
