Now is the time to be heard. With more than 30,000 voices, we have never been stronger. Let’s continue our vital work, including advocacy efforts for the profession and improve the health and wellbeing of all Australians.
APA membership provides greater value than ever before. Taking into account the impact of the pandemic on our members, the APA has absorbed the substantial increase in the insurance premium for the second year in a row, ensuring your membership fees remain unchanged for another year. Continue your membership in 2022 to access many member benefits.
Thank you for being part of the APA in 2021. With your support, we continued to meet all the challenges and be the voice for the profession.

For the period 2021-22, we want to draw your attention to some updates to your Insurance cover. These are outlined below:
APA Professional Indemnity and Public and Products Liability Insurance
APA Professional Indemnity and Public & Products Liability Insurance can be included in your APA Membership payment for members who have selected a 'private practice membership option - find out more.
Definition of animal expanded to include farm animals.
This year farm animals have been included into the definition within the APA policy wording. For the full definition please read the policy wording.
Definition of Allied Health assistant amended to exclude assistants not formally engaged by the Physiotherapist.
Many APA members use allied health assistants within their business. There was increasing concern among Physiotherapists that Allied Health Assistants were being engaged by the patient or other parties. The policy has been amended to ensure cover is only extended to Allied Health Assistants who are formally engaged by a Physiotherapist.
Vaccine administration cover included.
With many APA members helping with the COVID-19 vaccine roll out we have included an endorsement providing cover for those members trained and who are working within the public hospital system. Also noting that no cover shall be provided under this policy in respect of claims resulting from the efficacy of the vaccine.

Significant accomplishments that highlight our strong member value and advocacy include:
Economic Value of Physiotherapy in Australia report
One of our biggest achievements for 2021 was the landmark Economic Value of Physiotherapy in Australia report. This comprehensive and independent analysis was presented to key decision makers, including the Federal Minister for Health. The report illustrated the pivotal role that physiotherapy plays in the quality of life for all Australians and its value to the health system.
Aged care
Our advocacy campaign continues via politicians, consumer groups, aged care providers and other health professional peak organisations, such as AHPA, Australian Association of Gerontology, Dementia Australia, Stroke Foundation, to mention a few. The COVID-19 Temporary Aged Care Group Therapy Program is being delivered by physiotherapists in 11 Primary Health Network areas.
Compensable Schemes
We advocated at Federal and State level to increase awareness of the benefits of physiotherapy and towards consistency of fee schedules.
COVID-19
We fought for the inclusion of physio in all COVID-19 business support packages, along with improved access to physiotherapy during lockdowns.
Lifelong learning
With expanding PD opportunities, including new career pathways and more ways to get to specialisation, our commitment to your learning journey has never been stronger.
Mental health
At the Select Committee on Mental Health and Suicide Prevention, the APA National President, Scott Willis highlighted how physiotherapists are qualified to work with people who have mental illness across all health settings.
Primary Health Networks (PHN)
Our new strategy is already opening doors and delivering results. The APA was the only peak body to present to a forum of all PHN CEOs on the economic value of physiotherapy.
Physiotherapy Research Foundation (PRF)
Through your support, the PRF continues to further innovative research funding that contributes to the evidence base of the profession, informs policy, education and clinical practice. The PRF is also highly invested in discovering innovative ways to reproduce research findings and deliver content in a more digestible manner through infographics, animations, blogs and podcasts.
Public awareness campaigns
The ‘With Your Physio’ campaign informed those living with chronic health conditions about the important role physiotherapy can play in improving and managing their health journey.
Reconciliation Action Plan
We reaffirm our commitment to reconciliation through the new Innovate Reconciliation Action Plan.
Shaping national health plans
We have continued to contribute to the nation’s two key overarching health strategies: the Primary Health Care 10-Year Plan, which will reshape the health care system, and the National Preventive Health Strategy that is nearing completion.
But we’re not done yet. We need you with us all the way in 2022 to continue this vital work for our profession.
