Caesarean Scar Specialist
Presented by specialist physiotherapist Caroline Callister from Restore Therapy UK, this comprehensive course will enable you to promote improved function and comfort for patients at any stage after Caesarean birth with varied manual skills.
The training includes online theory, two highly practical days of skills development and a post-course case study requirement (2 x 2 treatments) with a library of resources (available for 12 months). A live online lesson for peer-to-peer outcome sharing and an opportunity for any outstanding questions.
You will finish training skilled in professional protocols for treatment and self-scar care to help recovery after Caesarean birth. Skills you will develop on this course:
• Specialist scar massage for Caesarean with adaptions for scar classifications, symptoms and stage of maturation
• Active and passive scar stretch for Caesarean scars
• Assessment and techniques to treat diastasis-recti (suitable for patients after Caesarean or vaginal birth)
• Diaphragm assessment and treatment (suitable for patients after Caesarean or vaginal birth)
• Abdominal massage suitable for patients after Caesarean or vaginal birth
• Self-scar care

Learning outcomes
- Explore a spectrum of manual strategies, including scar massage, fascial release, abdominal mobilisation, and diaphragm release, integrated with stretching and breathing relevant to the postpartum region
- Use advanced assessment techniques to evaluate scar tissue, including identifying tissue restriction and document sensory variation around the scar
- Link your existing biomechanical understanding to the influence of scar-related impact to abdominal interactions on posture, core function, pelvic alignment, and adjacent tissues
- Incorporate manual scar massage, abdominal and diaphragmatic techniques, and adjunctive methods to improve outcomes for patients after a recent or historic Caesarean based on up-to-date available evidence
- Apply clinical reasoning and treatment planning and progression across acute, mid, and mature phases of healing. Adapting your choice of manual techniques and patient education strategies according to scar type, sensitivity, and functional goals
- Develop proficiency in key practical skills such as targeted scar massage, abdominal soft tissue techniques, safe diaphragm techniques, and integration of pressure modulation throughout treatment progression
- Apply advanced clinical reasoning using case studies and real-world examples to identify and treat problem areas, plan treatment progression, and evaluate changes in pain, movement, and tissue quality

Caroline Callister
Caroline Callister graduated with a First Class BSc(Hons) in Physiotherapy in 2005. She began her career in the NHS and specialised into Pelvic and Core rehabilitation in 2009 treating clients, regardless of gender or identity. She is a member of the Healthcare Professionals Council (HCPC), Chartered Society of Physiotherapy (CSP) and Pelvic, Obstetric and Gynaecological Physiotherapy (POGP). She provides specialist physiotherapy assessment and individualised treatment for a number of pelvic and core muscle conditions. Caroline is based in Scotland, UK where she runs a private clinic and she has presented for Restore Therapy across the UK and in Europe and is excited to come and share these skills to more professionals in Australia. The Restore Therapy scar massage methodology is developed by Emma Holly, leading manual scar specialist. With a team of UK and global tutors the Restore Therapy courses are highly reviewed and have been very popular in Australia.
