Cognitive Functional Therapy Tier 1
Evoolve Pain Care Academy in partnership with the Australian Physiotherapy Association Presents
CFT Tier 1 – KNOWLEDGE - a 3-day hybrid online and face to face course
Day 1 - online on the Evoolve Pain Care Academy platform from the 16 November 2026.
• You will complete 5 hours of self-paced lectures by Prof. Peter O'Sullivan and Dr JP Caneiro about the multidimensional nature of low back pain and Cognitive Functional Therapy.
Note: Self-pace content must be completed before attending the face to face component.
Day 2 - 28 November 2026
• Follow Cognitive Functional Therapy consultations including the patient story (interview),physical examination and management plan from the first consultation to post-discharge.
• Discuss clinical reasoning
• Learn about the Cognitive Functional Therapy multidimensional Clinical Reasoning Framework form.
Day 3 - 29 November 2026
• Follow a more complex case application of Cognitive Functional Therapy consultation from the first consultation to post-discharge
• Apply the Cognitive Functional Therapy multidimensional Clinical Reasoning Framework form.
• Discuss clinical reasoning
• Learn about the research supporting the effectiveness of CFT.
• Develop an understanding of the training pathway to become an Evထlve Certified CFT Practitioner.
Post course
• Receive access to the remainder of the course and CFT consultation videos.
• Complete the remainder of the online course (1-3 hours).
• Revisit and revise the content as needed.
• Successfully complete the final quiz and be awarded with the Evထlve Certificate of Foundational KNOWLEDGE of CFT

Presenters
Joao Paulo Caneiro
Dr. JP Caneiro (PhD) is a Specialist Sports Physiotherapist (FACP), and a Titled Pain Physiotherapist (APAM), Director of Evoolve Pain Care Academy, Clinical Director at Body Logic Physiotherapy in Perth, and an Adjunct Clinical Senior Research Fellow at Curtin University. With more than 20 years of clinical experience, JP brings a unique perspective that bridges complex pain management, contemporary research, and high-performance sport. His clinical career has included working with people experiencing persistent and complex musculoskeletal pain, as well as supporting elite athletes as part of the Australian Rowing medical team. Dr. Caneiro has published over 50 peer-reviewed papers focused on pain-related fear, movement behaviors, and Cognitive Functional Therapy (CFT), including key research for the landmark RESTORE trial in which he trained the clinicians for the trial alongside Prof Peter O'Sullivan.
