College Knowledge Exchange - Managing older adults with dizziness - positional nystagmus is not always BPPV

The College Knowledge Exchange is a series of presentations delivered by Fellows of the Australian College of Physiotherapists (the College) exclusively for members of the College. Including a presentation followed by the opportunity for Q&A and peer-to-peer interaction, the College Knowledge Exchange is a great opportunity to connect with the College network and learn from the experience of your esteemed College peers.

Ann Rahmann - Managing older adults with dizziness - positional nystagmus is not always BPPV

This presentation will use a case-based discussion to review the complexities of dizziness in older adults. Although benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is increasing common with advancing age, not all positional nystagmus in older adults is BPPV.

Learning outcomes:
- consolidate understanding of the multi-factorial contributors to clinical presentations of dizziness in older adults
- consolidate and revise key clinical vestibular screening assessments for older adults
- develop an enhanced understanding of when onward referral should be considered for further investigation and / or management
