Managing Complex Tone: Spasticity and Casting Provisional program
International presenter, physiotherapist and researcher, Teresa Clark, is coming to Australia in 2027
This two day course offers a theoretical and practical introduction to casting complex neurological patients. The course generally focuses on:
- Rehabilitation and management of patients with complex physical disability as a consequence of severe brain injury, with a focus on spasticity and contracture treatment options. There is a particular focus on the role of soft and scotch splinting/serial casting for contracture prevention/management/reversal for people most at risk of progressive impairments and disability (i.e., severe physical disability, disorders of consciousness, complex neuro-disability).
- Integration and application of the evidence base relevant to treatment of spasticity, muscle/joint contracture, and sustained stretch treatments (i.e., splinting and serial casting) within multi-disciplinary rehabilitation and the long term management of chronic neurological conditions.
- Practical and evidence based risk management within serial casting practice.
- An interdisciplinary view on the role of scotch and soft casting in the management of complex disability which encourages joint Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy reasoning and practical working
- A strong practical component with the opportunity to fabricate upper and lower limb splints with all materials provided to enable learning to be directly applied to practice.
