Pathways to Specialisation by Research
The Specialist Research Physiotherapist Pathways provide two options for physiotherapists seeking recognition for research contribution:
- Portfolio Pathway
- Distinguished Pathway
Both pathways lead to the Specialist Research Physiotherapist credential and recognise excellence in research. Please choose a pathway below to learn about eligibility requirements and how to apply.
Applications for Fellowship by Original Contribution are no longer being accepted.
Fellowship by Original Contribution is being transitioned to the new Specialist Research Physiotherapist (SRP) – Portfolio Pathway. This pathway introduces a contemporary credential specifically designed for research physiotherapists. It recognises expertise, leadership and the significant impact physiotherapists contribute through research.
The SRP credential is underpinned by the National APA Research Physiotherapy Competence and Capability Framework, ensuring a rigorous and nationally relevant standard of excellence.
Currently in its pilot phase, the SRP Pathway is scheduled for formal launch to APA members in Q2 2026.
