Currently there are few options for physiotherapists who wish to explore a holistic approach to needle-based therapies. Dry needling courses offer a model that permits pain modulation but none of the systemic benefits acupuncture offers that can improve mood, sleep, inflammation, appetite and digestive function and sense of well-being.
HYBRID - ONLINE EVENT
9:30pm-10:30pm AEST– presentations. Please adjust to your timezones.
This event is also available as a face to face event located at Suite 1, 4 Sarich Way Bentley WA.
Presenter:
Dr Phil Daborn, a Urogynaecologist, will provide an update on Prolapse management, including surgical approaches and pessary management.
This course has been designed to provide an opportunity for physiotherapists to develop their practical skills and clinical reasoning associated with content taught in the online Level 1 Women's Pelvic Health Course.
This practical course will be structured around a ‘clinical case studies' format. Physiotherapists will be guided through a number of case studies requiring interpretation of completed Australian Pelvic Floor Questionnaires, bladder and bowel diaries, as well as results of Trans-Abdominal Real Time Ultrasound (RTUS), to develop an introductory management plan involving pelvic floor muscle training (where indicated) and lifestyle advice for each case.
In particular, physiotherapists will have the opportunity to perform Trans-Abdominal RTUS to assess pelvic floor function and bladder volumes, as well as learn the necessary procedures required to perform a visual assessment of anal sphincter contraction.
Note: even though there is no internal examinations are performed at Level 1, this course involves learners modelling in order to fulfil the learning objectives. If you know in advance that you will not consent to be a model for peer learning (visual assessment -external observation- of anal sphincter contraction), please communicate this as early as possible so that we can ensure a quality learning experience can be maintained for all participants.
This course will be presented by the Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) in combination with Women's Health Training Associates (WHTA).
For more information about the Women's Level 1 courses please click here.
The Pain Physiotherapy Level 1 course outlines the key principles of Pain and Pain Management which can be immediately transferred to practice. The aims of this course is to:

2. Develop a biopsychosocial model for the assessment and management of pain
3. Be able to understand the need for a person-centred approach to pain assessment and management
Part B consists of a live webinar that consolidates the learning from Part A through facilitated case study analysis and open discussion.

This course has been designed to provide an opportunity for physiotherapists to develop their practical skills and clinical reasoning associated with content taught in the online Level 2 Women's Pelvic Health Part A course.
This practical course is structured around a ‘clinical case studies' format. Physiotherapists will be guided through a number of case studies involving role play of the initial pelvic health patient interview, brainstorming differential diagnoses, choosing appropriate objective assessments to carry out, interpretation of assessment results (including sensation related bladder diary, vaginal / digital rectal examination results and reports from multidisciplinary health providers), and developing an appropriate treatment plan.
In addition, physiotherapists will have the opportunity to learn the necessary procedures (including infection control, obtaining informed consent and practical skills) required to perform internal vaginal examination and digital rectal examination for the purpose of pelvic floor assessment, as well as Transcutaneous Tibial Nerve Stimulation (TTNS) for the management of OAB.
As part of your registration, you are agreeing to model for both the internal vaginal examination and digital rectal examination. For information regarding the vaginal and rectal examinations, please click here
This course is designed for those who are commencing work in or returning to work in neurological physiotherapy or recent graduates who would like to consolidate their knowledge about neurological physiotherapy. The online modules cover; the principles of neuroplasticity, motor learning and task and context specific practice, the relative contributions of impairments to activity limitations after stroke and a clinical reasoning approach that applies this knowledge to the analysis of movement problems and intervention planning, and principles for maximising engagement in and amounts of practice in rehabilitation. The face-to-face content covers the tasks of bed mobility, sitting, sit to stand, standing, walking and arm function. For each of these activities, video case studies are used to guide discussions of movement analysis and relevant outcome measures and evidence-based intervention, practical sessions will be used to enforce the principles of effective set-up of training for these tasks.
The Neurological Physiotherapy Level 2 Course is at Intermediate level aligned to the Competence Framework.
A physiotherapy practitioner at this level can independently manage clients with more complex presentations. It would suit physiotherapists:
- With some years of experience in this area of practice
- Who have undertaken relevant further learning or qualification in this area of practice
The Course uses a mix of teaching and learning approaches with a focus on active learning and learner-centred strategies. These include PowerPoint presentations, practicals and facilitated case-based group discussions. Within the Course, participants will apply and demonstrate their enhanced knowledge, and translate this into practical application. A range of case studies and practical sessions will allow the presenters to work within their experience.
This introductory course aims to enhance the skills of clinicians in the field of musculoskeletal physiotherapy in the management of temporomandibular disorders (TMD). It presents current concepts of the syndrome including pain mechanisms and resultant pathokinematics and reviews the validated classification system of TMD and its subsets. The theoretical knowledge supports the evidence that underpins the rationale for the clinical tests used in differential diagnosis and facilitates an integrated and critical approach to management of the related structures. The practical component of the course assists participants to develop analytical skills and to apply appropriate examination and treatment techniques. Throughout the course emphasis is placed on clinical reasoning to support management decisions of the TMD subsets and on how it directs evidence-based practice.
This course provides in-depth insight into higher level mobility analysis and retraining post-neurological injury in the adult population. It includes gait and running analysis and retraining. The course combines a lecture day, covering both paediatric and adult components, and a practical day devoted exclusively to neurological issues. You should have some experience in treating the neurological population with gait and mobility limitations.

Community sport offers opportunities for physical and social skills development and a sense of belonging with peers. Physiotherapists working within the NDIS are uniquely positioned to support people with disability to be physically active.
Over a series of sessions, APA Disability will explore the role of physiotherapists in sport participation, and promote clinician knowledge sharing. An initial session in November 2026 will introduce the topic promote physiotherapists skills in:
- Understanding sport participation opportunities
- Setting sport related goals within the NDIS context
- Assessment for, and transition into sport
This session will finish with a panel discussion to highlight case studies and expertise. Audience engagement and feedback will be sought to guide the content of follow up sessions in early 2027.
The series is relevant to early career and experienced therapists, and Physiohub will be used to support an ongoing community of practice relating to community sport participation for people with disability.
This session would help physio clinic owners better understand the connection between practitioner wages, utilisation targets, incentive structures and overall clinic profitability.
The focus would be on the practical financial modelling behind team growth, including how to calculate whether a practitioner's wages are sustainable, how to set realistic utilisation expectations, and how to account for leave, cancellations, superannuation and other employment costs.
The session will also touch on how owners can model whether the clinic generates enough profit to support their own wage if they reduce their clinical hours — which is often a key consideration as the business grows and the owner moves into more of a leadership or management role.
