About the group
Gerontology group members are passionate about the health and wellbeing of older people and the key role physiotherapists play in supporting them to achieve their health and wellbeing goals, at all stages of the ageing continuum. Members are committed to collaborative, sustainable, high quality and high value healthcare that promotes independence and quality of life.
Some examples of the work the gerontology group has contributed to include:
- Residential Aged Care Funding Reform
- Single Quality Framework
- Aged Care Legislated Review
- Aged Care Workforce Strategy Task Force
- Inquiry into the Quality of Care in Residential Aged Care Facilities in Australia
- Assistive Technology for Older Australians.
Professional development is a strong focus of the group. Level 1 and Level 2 courses enable you to progress along the titling and specialisation pathway. There is also a vibrant lecture program that tackles topical issues and latest research and we also collaborate with other APA National Groups for joint lectures and courses to better support access to a breadth of clinical topics.
There are many opportunities to be involved in shaping the future of the Gerontology group. You can volunteer for committee positions in your state or at a national level, or contribute your ideas for professional development and other activities.
Every two years, the APA conference scientific committee works to produce a high quality program for each area of physiotherapy, including gerontology, giving you another opportunity to influence this area of the profession.
