The Australian Physiotherapy Association (APA) is deeply troubled to learn that former director of the APA Board, Darren Rivett, has been sanctioned by the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for his behaviour in 2019 that has been found to constitute professional misconduct.

The APA is disturbed to learn of the findings, and strongly condemn the actions of Mr Rivett. The APA is an organisation dedicated to upholding the highest standards of integrity and professionalism. Mr Rivett’s conduct is reprehensible and entirely inconsistent with the values and principles that guide our organisation and the expected conduct of our members.

All members of the APA are held to account for their behaviour, professionally and personally. Members who are additionally appointed and entrusted into leadership positions to represent the APA, our members and the physiotherapy profession as a whole, are done so with the expectation and obligation that they will conduct themselves with integrity at all times. It is deeply distressing to learn that Mr Rivett has failed in this duty and has abused his position of influence and standing.

The APA is dedicated to fostering a safe and respectful environment for our employees, stakeholders, our 32,000 members and the communities in which they serve. The APA respects the proceedings brought about by the Physiotherapy Board of Australia and the sanctions imposed by the South Australian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.

We appreciate the findings are confronting and our thoughts are with the affected person, and all those impacted by Mr Rivett’s actions. Should this information cause distress for any APA member, support is available. Members are requested to contact APA Member Support.
