Artificial intelligence (AI) is quickly becoming integrated into everyday healthcare, thanks to its potential to transform and support new ways of working. 

Australia’s health practitioner regulators, including the Physiotherapy Board of Australia (the Board), have issued a joint position statement reminding practitioners of the critical contribution they can make to Australia’s response to family violence. 

Before you can start practising as a physiotherapist in Australia and using the protected title ‘physiotherapist’, you must be registered with the Board. 

This signifies that you’re suitably trained and qualified and that you meet the registration standards for the profession.

This is my final First Word as National President of the Australian Physiotherapy Association.

I am grateful to the APA for the privilege and honour of leading this profession and association over the past four years.

This has been one of the most satisfying opportunities of my professional career.

I would strongly encourage any member who possesses the drive, empathy, articulation, vision and support to embark on a leadership role within the APA.

The APA recently hosted its second Industry Leader Group meeting in Melbourne, bringing together diverse insights from various sectors, including hospitals, community care, multidisciplinary practices, large corporations, occupational health, aged care and primary health, with representation from across Australia.

Strategically, we wanted to expand our advisory lens and ensure that we are authentically representing a broad spectrum of professional visions.

The day was intense as we delved into the topical issues that face our profession in Australia and beyond.

The Physiotherapy Board of Australia (the Board) is continuing its focus on engaging with registrants, creating an opportunity for physiotherapists to meet the Board and to understand more about how it works.

The Board’s third stakeholder engagement event was held in Canberra on 29 March 2019. All ACT physiotherapists, and those from neighbouring postcodes, were invited. Of the 33,000 registered physiotherapists in Australia, 663 have their principal place of practice in the ACT.
